Session 1 // June 19–30
“Inside Out” with Hamilton’s Daniel Watts
Through improvisational exercises, conversation/debate, and considerable amounts of writing, Watts will challenge artists to dig deep within themselves in order to create and produce relevant and provoking work that speaks to the true essence of the artist themselves. Daniel J. Watts Watts has appeared in eight Broadway shows including Hamilton, In The Heights, and Memphis. An educator, Watts has also served as an adjunct professor of NYU’s Tisch New Studio. He teaches his own course on how to truly engage in one’s self in order to contribute meaningful and personal artistic work. $1000.

“Poetry Intensive” With Get Lit’s Teaching Masters Kelly Thomas & Paul Mabon
Award-winning poet Kelly Grace Thomas, and acclaimed spoken word artist and actor, Paul Mabon, will sky rocket your poems to be powerful, polished and performance ready! The first week will take a deep dive into craft with focus on thematic complexities, mining metaphors and turning language inside out. Students will learn valuable skills including delivering feedback, editing and the publishing process. The second week students will learn how to plan, perform and produce a fantastic final show. Students will learn on stage and behind the scenes skills such as stage presence, charismatic hosting, interacting with the audience, time management, and more. This summer camp is the perfect prep for Get Lit Player auditions on 9/23. Spaces limited. $800.

Screenwriting with Samuel Curtis
Want to turn your Poetic Ideas into a Screenplay this Summer? Develop your inspiration, writing, drafting, formatting, editing, note-giving/taking, and finishing skills…all culminating in your own originally produced screenplay that you will then learn how to “pitch” in the ever-growing creative entertainment industry.
Learn about narrative features, narrative shorts, episodic television/web series, documentary, and experimental approaches to cinematic screenwriting. Through hands-on instruction using Get Lit’s youth empowerment model you can see your movie ideas come alive on the page.
The curriculum for the Screenwriters Summer Symposium for High School Students, offered through Get Lit - Words Ignite and Literary Riot Media Productions, is similar to that of an undergraduate degree program in Motion Picture Arts. It combines intensive professional training with a comprehensive understanding of the techniques and theories behind the art and craft of screenwriting. Prior experience in film or video is not required.

Cinematic Creativity with Samuel Curtis
Want to be an Independent Filmmaker? In Four Weeks You Will: Develop your directing, producing, shooting and editing skills to create an original music video and/or short film. Discover the narrative, documentary, and experimental concepts that go into filmmaking. Through experiential instruction using Literary Riot Media Productions’ professional digital camera and sound equipment, you can see your stories turn from ideas into moving pictures on the screen.
The curriculum for the CINEMATIC CREATIVITY CAMP, offered through Get Lit - Words Ignite and Literary Riot Media Productions, is closely modeled to that of a undergraduate degree program in Motion Picture Arts. It incorporates intensive professional training with a comprehensive recognition of the tools, techniques, and history behind the art, craft, and business of filmmaking. Prior experience in film or video is not required.
Session 3 // July 24–August 4
Advanced Filmmaking with Samuel Curtis
Ready to get to the next level? This workshop is for filmmakers who have completed prior work with Literary Riot Media Productions, to aid each student in completing their own short film that will then be eligible to submit as a reel for college applications and to festivals across the globe. By invitation only.
The curriculum for ADVANCED FILMMAKING, offered through Get Lit - Words Ignite and Literary Riot Media Productions, is closely modeled to that of a undergraduate degree program in Motion Picture Arts.
