"Thank you. You gave my students the opportunity to work hard at something, follow through on personal and group responsibility, put themselves out there, and experience success. They will never forget this. Never. And neither will I. I’ve been an emotional wreck since we found out we made it through (to the finals). Three hours of smiling, laughing and crying. I am so proud of my kids."

The Get Lit Players (GLP’s) are an award winning, professional performance troupe comprised of teenagers from high schools throughout Los Angeles County, and selected through a competitive audition process. The Get Lit Players travel across the nation performing both classic and spoken word poetry, inspiring their peers to read, write, be leaders in their communities and participate in the arts. They meet each Saturday, logging over 300 workshop/performance hours and performing for over 15,000 of their peers each year. They were honored by a special invitation to the White House in 2011.

Every Get Lit Player has access to one on one college counseling through Get Lit’s Next Step program. As a result, nearly 100% of our graduating GLP’s go on to college and nearly 70% receive scholarships. Graduates of the Get Lit Player program often become LITERATE members, working as poetic mentors to other Los Angeles youth while in college. This year’s Get Lit Coach is Matthew Cuban.
