Join our Van’s Checkerboard Day campaign! Can you help out by creating a short poem, based on one of the prompts below?

  • When I feel stuck in one place I…
  • How has mental health impacted your family, community, or friends?
  • When, where, and with whom is your mental health strongest?
  • What does a world where people are cared for and healed look or feel like?

How To Get Started:

For Video:

  1. Choose/create an original poem that speaks to you and covers the prompt.
  2. Set your camera horizontal in a well-lit area and record your art! (make sure the video serves you justice, don’t rush your craft!) Once you’re happy with the recording send it to us and voila!!
  3. Make sure you include the following info with your submission:
    • Name
    • Pronouns
    • Age
    • Where you are from
    • The title of your poem

For Email Submission:

  1. Please send your poem in the body of the email or as an attached doc.
  2. Make sure you include the following info with your submission:
    • Name
    • Pronouns
    • Age
    • Where you are from

How To Submit (Submit By November 19th 7am PST Or Post Online Between 7am – 7pm PST, November 19th)

1) A short, original poem created using one of the prompts above. 🧡

2) Share the poem itself in an email or doc sent to info@getlit.org

3) A video of you reciting your poem (this can be as short as a haiku or as long as you want it to be (within reason)). You can just record yourself using your phone or laptop, and email the file back to us, or you can post it on your social channel of choice and tag Get Lit & #VansCheckerboardDay and we can reshare.

We will be giving away a free hat or shirt to selected poets, as well as featuring submissions on Get Lit and Vans’ social channels. If you submit a poem, please include with your submission if you’d prefer to receive a Get Lit hat or a Get Lit t-shirt.
