Matias Ponce
Matias Ponce is a professional actor and teaching artist with over a decade of experience in television, film, and theater. Most recently, he appeared in the Amazon Prime series On Call by Dick Wolf and the Netflix series The Lincoln Lawyer Season 3. Currently, he is developing his solo show, Soy Chicano from Ohio.
A passionate advocate for spoken word and poetry, Ponce draws major inspiration from Miguel Piñero, whose work deeply influenced his artistic journey. His connection to Piñero’s legacy was solidified in 2011 when he made his Los Angeles stage debut in Short Eyes at The Los Angeles Theatre Center.
Born and raised in The Old South End of Toledo, Ohio, Ponce was introduced to acting by his mother, landing roles in local commercials and theater productions before moving to Los Angeles in 2009. In 2017, he had the honor of portraying Henry Reyna in Luis Valdez’s Zoot Suit at The Mark Taper Forum, sharing the stage with Oscar-nominated actor Demián Bichir.
As a dedicated teaching artist, Ponce has worked with numerous nonprofit theater organizations, bringing arts education to LAUSD students and teaching creative writing to incarcerated adults through InsideOUT Writers. He continues his collaboration with director José Luis Valenzuela and is part of the succession of The Latino Theater Company at LATC in Downtown Los Angeles.
